“Medea Melea” an experimental short film written and directed by Christos Karabelas. It will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival 2015 – Short Film Corner

Through an intriguing visual approach, it focuses on the myth of Euripides, and his most famous Greek tragedy, Medea. “Melea” means black, dark on the inside and is the first word used in the theatre play to describe the character of Medea.

The movie aims to illuminate a side on ancient drama that remains shadowed: What would happen if the three protagonists met and expressed their points of view freely, without deception or lie. What would they say if they had had the conflict that they denied each other?

Featuring artistic and symbolic elements, “Medea Melea” portrays the course of this woman: Starting from the roots of her story, when she met Jason, left her homeland and married him to her coming to Greece, where she gave birth to their children, was betrayed and decided to take revenge…
